Green Point Life

Welcome to an initiative to promote the thriving, bustling area of the Atlantic Seaboard which is Green Point.

Being closer to the central business district and the V&A Waterfront, the energy of the regeneration to the Cape Town Foreshore has spilled over to the Green Point Main Road shopping precinct, which is literally bursting at the seams.

Soon to be the focus of the 2010 Socccer World Cup and with the construction of the new Stadium and road system nearing completion, Green Point is starting to wind up to the greatest sporting event in the world, getting ready to play host to an invasion of international tourists and football fans.

The Cape Town Stadium is near completion and will host 3 test events. The first will take place on the 23 January 2010.  This will be a test run with only 20 000 seats available for a match between to Cape Town based PFL soccer teams, Ajax Cape Town and Santos. Kick off is at 4pm.

The second event will be a rugby game between Vodacom Stormers and an invitational Boland team on the 6 February 2010 - 40 000 seats will be available.

The third event, on  Monday, 22nd March 2010, will be a religious gathering hosted by the 'Global Day of Prayer' (GDOP) to full stadium capacity  - 68,000 people.

For the 2010 World Cup, the stadium will have 68,000 seats, but 13,000 will be removed after the event and used at other City of Cape Town facilities.
