The 2010 Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Race took place on the 14th March. This year once again the riders raced in strong head winds but not as bad as last year. This is the 33rd year of this 109k race, that starts in the City of Cape Town, around the Cape Peninsula and finishes in Green Point. It's a non profit event that raises funds for many charities. This cycle race draws around 35,000 cyclists, from South Africa and around the world and is the largest timed sporting event. Every year the race attracts international riders, Lance Armstrong was among the thousands this year and finished in 9th place. The route is 109km, where cyclists enjoy the most beautiful scenery in the world. Spectators line the route and spend the day giving their support and encouragement to the participants, many of which dress in colourful costumes, bringing a festive feeling to the event. Malcome Lange won the men's title in 2 hours 39 minutes and the woman's title was won by Anriette Schoeman in 3 hours and 6 minutes. |
